Pressing a DTF transfer takes about 20 seconds — but the difference between a print that lasts 100 washes and one that peels in week two comes down to three settings: temperature, time, and pressure. Here's the exact chart we give every customer.
DTF pressing chart by fabric
Our transfers use one setting for every fabric: 310°F (154°C) · 10–15 seconds · firm pressure. Only the peel changes.
| Fabric | Temp | Time | Pressure | Peel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100% Cotton | 310°F | 10–15 sec | Firm | Hot/warm |
| Poly blends (50/50) | 310°F | 10–15 sec | Firm | Warm |
| 100% Polyester | 310°F | 10–15 sec | Firm | Cold |
| Fleece / hoodies | 310°F | 10–15 sec | Firm | Warm |
| Nylon (test first) | 310°F | 10–15 sec | Firm | Cold |
Step-by-step
- Preheat the garment for 3–5 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
- Position the transfer print-side down (film facing up).
- Press at 310°F for 10–15 seconds with even, firm pressure.
- Peel the film in one smooth motion at the recommended peel temp.
- Second press for 5–10 seconds with parchment or a Teflon sheet on top. This step is what locks in wash durability — don't skip it.
5 mistakes that ruin DTF prints
- Too little pressure. The #1 cause of peeling. You should need real effort to close the press.
- Skipping the second press. Matte finish and durability both come from it.
- Peeling too early on poly. Let it cool — cold peel means cold.
- Pressing over seams or zippers. Uneven surface = uneven adhesion. Use a pressing pillow.
- Guessing your press temp. Many presses run 10–20°F off. Check with heat strips once.
